Picture
By majority vote and feedback from our participants, our lab decided to name the Mentoring Program, S.L.I.Y. Saving Lives & Inspiring Youth.

Goal

The goal of this mixed-methods study is to evaluate the effectiveness of community based cross-age mentoring to reduce negative outcomes related to violence exposure/engagement and promote positive development among African-American and Latino youth from seven sites serving four low-income, high violence urban neighborhood using youth mentors from the same high-risk environment.

Research & Methods

Cross-age peer mentoring programs have been found to overcome the problems and ineffectiveness of other types of mentoring programs and are important to further evaluate.
